(actually Ike Turner and The Kings of Rhythm) at Sam Phillips' Sun recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee
and covered on June 14,1951 by Bill Haley and the Saddlemen.
Both versions of this song have been declared (the definitive first rock and roll record ) by differing authorities.

 

Brenston's reached #1 on the Billboard Rhythm and Blues chart on June 9, 1951.
Haley's version was one of the first white covers of an R&B hit,
and set the course of his future career.
